The spiritual heart of Armenia and the world's oldest state-built Christian cathedral, where faith, history, and timeless architecture come together.
About Etchmiadzin Cathedral
Etchmiadzin Cathedral is the spiritual center of the Armenian Apostolic Church and one of the world's oldest Christian cathedrals. Founded in the early 4th century following Armenia's adoption of Christianity as the state religion, it has remained a symbol of faith, culture, and national identity for over seventeen centuries. Today, the cathedral continues to serve as the residence of the Catholicos of All Armenians and welcomes pilgrims and visitors from around the world.
Architecture
Originally constructed in 301–303 AD, the cathedral has been carefully restored and expanded throughout history while preserving its unique Armenian architectural character. Its elegant stone construction, sacred interior, and centuries-old frescoes reflect the rich spiritual and cultural heritage of Armenia. In 2000, Etchmiadzin Cathedral and the surrounding churches were inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List.
