Architecture
Garni Temple is the only surviving Greco-Roman colonnaded temple in Armenia and one of the finest examples of classical architecture in the region. Built in the 1st century AD from locally quarried basalt, the temple features twenty-four Ionic columns, a triangular pediment, and finely carved decorative details inspired by Hellenistic and Roman design.
Standing on a high plateau above the Azat River Gorge, the temple combines elegant proportions with a dramatic natural setting. Following its destruction in the 17th century earthquake, Garni was carefully reconstructed in the 1970s using original stone blocks, preserving its authentic appearance for future generations.
